Ernst & Young announced the launch of its CFO Roundtable Series in the Middle East yesterday. The inaugural session was held at the Capital Club, DIFC.
The theme of the day was ‘What’s next for the CFO? – In an environment where many companies are still in “survival mode,” what role does the CFO play in driving the way forward?’ The primary objective was to offer senior finance executives an exclusive, peer-to-peer environment in which they can openly share relevant business practices, discuss critical issues, and address other market dynamics affecting the role of financial functions around the world.
Francis Small, Partner, Ernst & Young said: “The importance of both the CFO and the finance function has never been greater. In today’s economic environment, CFOs increasingly need to demonstrate visionary leadership, innovative and strategic execution, while displaying ever greater levels of endurance and adaptability.”
Delegates debated how expectations of finance leaders have changed over the past 12 months, with many drawing on personal experience. They discussed areas including the importance of the CFO in undertaking a full re-evaluation of strategy and in helping drive transformational change. They also reviewed different ways to strengthen the overall capabilities of the finance function.
The collaborative and interactive networking session was led by Francis Small, Ernst & Young’s Global Leader for Private Capital and Paul Wood, Ernst & Young’s EMEIA Leader for the Finance Function. Francis has over 25 years of transaction experience, advising multinational clients on all aspects of capital raising, acquisitions and disposals. Paul has over 20 years experience working with global companies and their CFOs.
