“Arab nationals from the UAE and throughout the region looking to visit and travel to places that present a unique blend of a deep sense of history and culture together with the simplicity of modern living and a clean and green environment shouldn’t miss out on travelling into Scandinavia,” said Albert Henschel during a media roundtable with journalists from various Arabic news agencies.
Following the United Nations Climate Conference, COP15, attended by no less than 126 heads of state across the globe, Copenhagen in Denmark is now aiming to be the ‘capital of sustainable meetings’ after also having been proclaimed by the first European Green City Index as the greenest major city in Europe. This unique study on the environmental sustainability of 30 major cities in 30 European countries was conducted by Siemens, which it has published and presented during the UN Climate Change conference.
An equally significant data from the same study concluded that other Scandinavian capitals such as Stockholm in Sweden and Oslo in Norway performed the best as they were ranked second and third respectively behind Copenhagen. According to the study, Scandinavian countries have placed the environment on their agenda for many years – thus have invested in sustainable production.
Copenhagen, according to the index, is among the seven best cities in all eight categories and is the city that scored highest, and was thus adjudged as the ‘greenest’.
“It is definitely of no coincidence that SAS Scandinavian Airlines itself, being the largest airline in Northern Europe and the national carrier of Denmark, Norway and Sweden, is at the forefront of environmental initiatives in the airline industry,” remarked Henschel.
“As Arab nationals travel into Scandinavia via SAS Scandinavian Airlines, such travellers would immediately get a feel and taste of a truly Scandinavian experience, not just from the environmental perspective, but from the rich tradition of simplicity and hospitality that we extend to our valued customers on board any of our flights,” he added.
SAS Scandinavian Airlines is in its third winter season of the Dubai-Copenhagen route, which was characterized by encouraging business results brought about through significant increases in bookings and load factors in spite of the ongoing global financial crisis. The fourth winter season flights have already been confirmed and the first flights for that season would be on 4 November 2010 out of Copenhagen and 5 November 2010 out of Dubai.
