Students in the UAE will be given the opportunity to meet numerous representatives from universities and colleges in the UK with a view to developing their education during the Education UK Exhibition (EDUKEX), organised annually by British Council.
EDUKEX is part of a British Council initiative to enhance cultural and educational relations between the UAE and UK by helping create a knowledge-based economy. Prospective students from across the UAE are invited to attend EDUKEX to obtain information from representatives of various universities and learning institutions about acquiring UK qualifications, with a view to studying in both the UAE and UK. According to the Higher Education Statistics Agency, the last academic year (2007 – 2008) saw nearly 12,000 students from the Middle East studying higher education courses in the UK, and many more students taking vocational education and English language courses.
“British Council’s education initiatives have long been a part of the UAE education landscape, and EDUKEX is an important part of this work. By providing prospective students across the Emirates with opportunities to achieve UK qualifications, we are enabling them to return to the UAE and grow the economy with their entrepreneurial plans and ideas, an important part of developing the country,” said Alison Devine, Deputy Director British Council UAE.
EDUKEX provides students with the chance to learn more about UK education opportunities, as well as the resources to gain personal advice on study options, including information about courses, qualifications, institutions, entry requirements, visas, and travel. British Council also plays an important role in providing opportunities for both Middle East and UK institutions to meet potential partners for mutually beneficial collaboration. The education exhibition regularly attracts over 50 exhibitors and more than 2000 visitors.
EDUKEX 2010 will be held in Abu Dhabi on 16 January 2010, and in Dubai from 17 – 18 January 2010. The main objective of EDUKEX is to raise awareness of the quality of UK education and the extensive choice of courses and institutions on offer at every level. Potential students and visitors are given the chance to learn about English language courses, vocational courses, and higher education courses.
A number of activities will take place around the exhibition, such as presentations focused specifically on engineering, art and design, medicine, and many other subjects. Further information about the event, including a list of exhibitors, registration instructions, and a list of scholarships offered, can be found at www.educationuk.org/me
In the last two years, Education UK has reached over 5000 students through exhibitions and outreach presentations, carried out market research on behalf of UK institution partners and contributed to the organisation of Emirates Association of UK Alumni events to provide networking opportunities for returned graduates.
