I've been in two scenarios lately as a customer, when I received an unexpected freebie. Right after ordering my bagel and coffee at the Bagel Bar, the girl behind the cashier offered me a bottle of mineral water for free. I was going to ask for a glass of water anyway, so it came as a welcome gift.

A few days later, I went buying a steak at the meat section in my nearby supermarket. I was chatting with the guy at the cashier about the point that there didn't seem to be too much meat for that much money.

He apparently took pity on my miserable face when he said - "Tell you what sir, you may have this other steak for the same price" and he added an extra steak on top!

So what do we learn here? The lesson is that most of the customers like a freebie and if they receive one from a supplier it creates a positive relationship. And when people buy items at your online business, on the download section, give them unadvertised freebies and they will love you for that.

As customers, we're likely to return and do business with those who offer us freebies and we're more likely to tell other people regarding our positive experience. It's good technique to give your customers freebies sometimes but don't over do it.
